Tenaciousness is a competency.
To keep up with this course, I have used and developed many skills. One skill I developed, was the ability to think creatively. I have maintained this skill throughout my life, but this course has allowed me to look at life in a new perspective. Just in the last several weeks, I have paid more attention to a lot of the unmet needs in society that could be potential opportunities. In addition, to keep up with the requirements of this course, I have also developed the skill of critical thinking. With critical thinking, I have learned how to think thoroughly through different solutions and assess how different solutions would affect society. Critical thinking has also allowed me to become more adaptive with my plans. It has allowed me to listen to other’s input and decide if my product needs adapting to be more successful.

Tenaciousness is also about attitude.
Throughout this semester, there were a couple times I felt like giving up. One time in which I felt like giving up was near the beginning of the semester, when I could not think of a product that I actually cared about and that would actually help society. This was difficult as I was forced to think about the world in a way that I had not before. Luckily, after hours and hours of thinking and focusing on the philosophy of entrepreneurship that we were learning in class with an open mind, I was able to finally come up with a product that would be beneficial to society. I also felt like giving up another time during this semester, as I was still trying to get a proper schedule so I would not procrastinate. Through trial and error and a lot of stress, I figured out a way to manage my time to ensure that I was giving myself enough time to complete my assignments for my classes. During the last two months, I feel I have definitely developed a tenacious attitude as I have persevered despite the stress that I have experienced this semester. What really contributed to my tenacious attitude is my desire to succeed and my ability to adapt to change. Since this is my first semester at the University of Florida, I had a lot of change going on at once and had to figure out a way to best adapt myself to my new surroundings and work load. I feel that this experience and my determination has contributed greatly to my tenacious attitude.

Three tips.
One tip I would offer next semester’s students when it comes to tenacity and developing a tenacious mindset is to keep an open mind throughout the course. This allows the most growth when it comes to tenacity and allows an individual to get the most out of the course.
The second tip I would offer next semester’s students would be to choose an unmet need that they have had experience. Choosing an opportunity that you can directly relate with makes doing the work for the course a lot easier and a lot more fun. This is due to the fact that one generally would have a passion for fixing a major inconvenience in their life and can therefore really pour all their effort into the course and get the most of it.
The last tip I would offer is to have confidence or develop confidence. To have a tenacious mindset and to foster skills that support tenacity, having confidence in yourself, your abilities, and your opportunity is key. Confidence will allow a student to complete the assignments without much issues and it will show through their posts and life in general.

Hi Haley,
ReplyDeleteKeeping an open mind while developing a schedule to help adapt to your new environment is a challenging task. I am a senior, and know exactly how you felt coming here for the first time. It truly is a lot of trial and error. By making a schedule, writing in a planner, and prioritizing your tasks will help you reach success here at UF. It seems like you are handling it pretty well. I encourage you to keep it up and don't get discouraged when things do not go your way all of the time. It is a marathon and not a sprint!
Haley,
ReplyDeleteYour post reminded me of how this course has truly changed the way I see the world. Before, I walked around accepting things that were ineffective. But now, I start noticing these “opportunities” and can’t help but think what I can do to fill in the gap and fix the problem. Sometimes, it’s actually a little annoying how many problems one starts noticing; it’s funny how it’s hard to turn it off sometimes. Do you ever feel like this?
