I believe that this opportunity might exist because, since the older generation
is not retiring, jobs are not opening for those in the millennial generation.
This causes a problem for millennials as they are having a difficult time
moving within the work force and forces the millennials to get creative with
how they are going to make money.
c)
The prototypical customer with the opportunity would be the millennial
generation as they are the ones unable to take the jobs of the baby boomers.
d) I think this opportunity would be relatively difficult to exploit because one cannot force a generation to retire. The baby boomers have the right and the opportunity to keep their occupation or retire. In addition, it would be hard to identify every reason that the baby boomers are straying away from retirement. Even though the baby boomers are creating issues for the generations below them, there is not a clear and easy route to take to ensure that baby boomers will follow the average retirement plans and they cannot be forced to follow those plans.

I
found this opportunity to be relevant due to my experience and my knowledge on
the millennial generation and baby boomer generation. Though I am not a part of
the millennial generation and I have not experienced this first hand, I have
seen it through family members and friends who are a part of this generation. I
have observed that is becoming harder for millennials to secure jobs because
baby boomers are remaining in positions that would be beneficial to the younger
generation. I believe that there could be a way to open up more jobs for those
in the millennial generation, not by forcefully making baby boomers retire, but
through a different outlet, whether it be providing more support for those who
are retired or by creating new jobs in the workforce.

Economic
Trend: Structural Unemployment
a) Source: https://www.thebalance.com/us-economic-outlook-3305669
b) This information suggests that an opportunity might exist through the exploration of the unemployment rate. Even though the unemployment rate is decreasing, a lot of workers are considered part-time and most of the growth in employment is in minimum wage retail and food service industries. The opportunity lies in the hope to decrease the structural unemployment and get those who are in low paying jobs into the next tier of work.
c) The prototypical customer of this opportunity would be those who are unemployed or those who are working in a minimum wage job, who have a desire to work in a full-time position.
d) I believe that this opportunity would be relatively difficult to exploit as the United States cannot force people to work in full-time positions. However, I do believe it is possible to encourage moving up to full-time positions by focusing on the idea that minimum wage, part-time jobs could be viewed as stepping stones to provide experience for employees to use to get another job in the future.
I found this opportunity due to my experience with this topic. I have had various discussions and research through American Government to understand the unemployment rate, the structural unemployment rate, and low paying, part-time jobs. Also, I was able to identify this opportunity through my attitude towards life and the work force as I believe that many can move into full-time jobs or aim to move into full-time jobs with the experience that they gain from their part time jobs. In addition, it is easy for me to understand the effects of being out of a job for an extended amount of time because it makes you less appealing to employers, and therefore I believe that there is a great opportunity in encouraging a decrease in the structural unemployment rate.

b)
The information obtained in this argument goes to express the changing in
regulations of DACA under Trump. I believe that this suggests an opportunity to
offer a solution to those young people who enjoy the freedom of the United
States without ending the DACA agreement and allowing them to continue their
lives. Many of the young undocumented immigrants had no choice to come to
America as it was their parents’ decision. I believe that an opportunity lies
with in this issue as there should be away to protect the many young people who
would be effected by this and allow them a chance to possibly gain their
citizenship.
c) The prototypical customer of this opportunity would be those young undocumented immigrants and their families as they are the ones effected by DACA and Trump’s decision regarding it.
d) I believe this opportunity would be relatively difficult to exploit because ultimately it is up to the government. However, we live in a nation in which it is encouraged to speak out and express our beliefs and I believe that if there was enough backlash, that this issue could be resolved for the young people effected by DACA and the United States political and economic system.

It
was easy for me to see an opportunity through all the issues surrounding DACA
as my attitude and desires in life align with everyone having access to great
opportunities. Through DACA, many children were provided protection as the
government acknowledged that they were not at fault if they were in the United
States undocumented. I believe that giving those who are effected by DACA a
chance to ensure they can continue their lives surrounded by the endless
opportunities the United States has to offer would be the ultimate opportunity
and solution to this issue. I believe that Trump should be valuing people at
this time and come up with a solution that allows these young people to stay
put, whether it be allowing them to become citizens or renewing the DACA
agreement all together.

Change: Legalization of Marijuana
a) Source: http://money.cnn.com/2017/04/19/news/legal-marijuana-420/index.html
b) Through the information based on the legalization of marijuana, I believe there is a great opportunity. In recent years, there has been a great debate and conflict on whether or not marijuana should be legalized in the United States. As of right now, marijuana is currently legalized in eight states across the United States. I believe there is a large opportunity in the legalization of marijuana as it would bring in more money and help the United States economically and also would help with the crime rate in the United States.
c) The prototypical customer would be those who would like to use marijuana or benefit from those who use marijuana.
d) I believe that this opportunity would be relatively simple to exploit, as it would only need a vote from each state. In addition, I believe that the benefits of legalizing marijuana are very significant as it would help the United States greatly by changing the regulation of marijuana.
This opportunity has been around for a long time, but has not been acted upon in a great manner. It was easy for me to see the opportunity as it is a recurring conversation within our government system and I gained a large amount of knowledge about the legalization of marijuana within an American Government class. I found, in this class, that the opportunity was very much there for marijuana to be legalized and for the United States to profit off of the consumption of marijuana.

I found baby boomers getting older as an opportunity as well but I find it interesting how we saw different opportunities from the same base. While I discussed how as people do eventually retire more jobs can be created to cater to their needs you brought up the interesting point that if they do not retire then jobs are being taken away from millennials trying to fill their shoes. I also agree that the legalization of marijuana will be great business opportunity for people in the future and I will be interested to see what occurs.
ReplyDeleteYour opportunities were all very interesting, I also choose the opportunity with Baby Boomers and retirement. The next generation is having a hard time finding jobs but in this tough economy the Baby Boomer generation is scared to retire and be left with nothing. Your opportunity with marijuana is also a great idea, there are so many economic opportunities in legalizing marijuana that we could fix a lot of problems with our economy.
ReplyDeleteYour opportunities were all interesting and relevant. I also wrote a previous article about baby boomers but I argued that since they're retiring, they will be better targets for producers looking to sell into their free time. I support your position on the legalization of marijuana throughout the country. Within the states that have already done so, the benefits outweigh any negatives created.
